What are the treatments? It depends on what area is being treated. It is common to apply a numbing agent to the area around 20 minutes prior the procedure. You may experience minimal discomfort as well as pain during the procedure. A local anesthesia, along with the numbing cream, will be used for deeper treatments. We will recommend that acne patients return to the clinic within 24 to 48 hours of treatment. This involves inserting an insulated, needle-like instrument into the affected area, such as a fat pad or wrinkle. The radio frequency will then trigger the required number of pulses.
What does recovery look like? You might experience redness, swelling, or bruising the first week. You may feel numbness for as long as four weeks after deeper treatments. When can I expect to see the results? The treated area may look worse in the initial recovery period. This is normal. Over the following weeks or months, you will see a dramatic improvement in your skin. New collagen forms, and the skin tightens. This allows you to remold your structure to achieve the desired look. Although it is possible for maximum results with one treatment, not all procedures are the same. It is possible to get the best results with multiple treatments.

We get questions from potential patients who come to our Lenexa office for an aesthetic treatments because they want to look younger. We asked Dr. Margolin about his advice to patients who might have unrealistic expectations about aesthetic treatments. Dr. Margolin said, “I tell potential patients the truth: I am an M.D., not a magician. I understand that it’s natural for people to want to look their best. Everyone wants to look their best, so they feel their best. Aesthetic treatments like BOTOX can temporarily reduce lines and wrinkles but these treatments can’t make them look like they did in college or like their favorite supermodel.”
In a Day Spa, treatments are typically provided by people certified in areas like therapeutic massage and cosmetology. A Med Spa is a hybrid between a Medical Aesthetic Clinic and a Day Spa that operates under the supervision of a highly trained and specialized Physician.
