This sprawling mansion from the late 19th century features antique furnishings and art. By appointment, tours can be taken. The mansion is worth a visit for history buffs. Special events include a black tie gala and other special events.
Historic mansion, the Wyeth-Tootle Manor is located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. They had travelled extensively throughout Europe to gather ideas and build the mansion which was completed in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion is three stories high and has a tower. The house is home to more than 40 rooms. Beautiful woodwork and imported stained glasses are some of the interior's highlights. The interior allows visitors to experience the life of a late 19th-century resident. The Wyeth–Tootle Mansion is found in St. Joseph, Missouri. Huston Wyeth held several important positions in the city, as well as being a businessman. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He served on the board of directors of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved with both the Waterways League of America (USA) and the American Museum of Natural History (USA). He was also an active member of the Wyeth Duck Club as well as the St. Joseph Duck Club as well as Audubon Society. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
