Historic mansion, the Wyeth-Tootle Manor is located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built it in 1879. It was designed in Gothic style by Eckel and Mann Architects. The family's European travels inspired them to create the mansion, which they completed in 1883. The Tootles owned the house from 1887 until it was sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. The house boasts more than 40 bedrooms. Beautiful woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained windows are all part of the interior. Huston Wyeth held several important positions in the city, as well as being a businessman. He was actively involved in the city’s arts and manufacturing industries. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved at the American Museum of Natural History and the Waterways League of America. He was also a member and past president of the Wyeth Duck Club (St. Joseph Duck Club) and the Audubon Society (St. Joseph Duck Club). He was also president of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
