Wyeth-Tootle Mansion.
The mansion, which dates back to the late 19th-century, is filled with period furniture and art. On request, tours are offered. For history buffs, this mansion should be a must-see. You will also find special events such a black tie gala.
The Wyeth – Tootle Manor is a historic house located at 11th & Charles sts. William M. Wyeth built the mansion in 1879. Mann Architects designed it in Gothic style. The family's European travels led to many ideas for the mansion that was built in 1883. The Tootles lived here until 1887, when the property was sold.
The mansion includes three floors and one tower. There are more than 40 rooms inside the house. Beautiful woodwork, imported stained glass, and hand-painted ceilings are just a few of the features found in the interior. Visitors can also experience life in the late nineteenth century. Huston Wyeth served several roles in the city as well. He was active in the city’s manufacturing and arts industries. He served as president of the Humane Society of St. Joseph, and on the board of Blue Valley Creamery Co. He was also involved at the American Museum of Natural History and the Waterways League of America. He was also a member the St. Joseph Duck Club, the Wyeth Duck Club, the Audubon Society, and the St. Joseph Duck Club. He was also the president and founder of the St. Joseph Hardware Company.
