The late 19th century estate features period furnishings, art, and other antiques. On request, tours are offered. The mansion is worth a visit for history buffs. The mansion hosts special events such as a black-tie gala.
The Wyeth - Tootle Manor, at 11th and Charles sts., is a historical mansion. Built in 1879 by William M. Wyeth, it was designed by Mann Architects in Gothic style. They gathered ideas from their European travels and built the mansion in 1883. The Tootles occupied the house until 1887 when it sold.
The mansion has three floors, and a tower. The house is home to more than 40 rooms. The interior is decorated with beautiful woodwork, handpainted ceilings, and imported stain glass. The interior allows visitors to experience the life of a late 19th-century resident. Near downtown St. Joseph, Missouri is the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion. Huston Wyeth, in addition to his business success, held several city positions. He was active in the city’s manufacturing and arts industries. He was president of St. Joseph's Humane Society and served on its board. He was also involved in the Waterways League of America, and the American Museum of Natural History. He was also an active member of the Wyeth Duck Club as well as the St. Joseph Duck Club as well as Audubon Society. He was also the president of St. Joseph Hardware Company which he owned and managed.
